In a world of accelerating change and increasing uncertainty it is easy to get lost in distractions and in the challenge of keeping up with the pace. During this residency our family of 4 intends to document and share what happens when our focus is far more intentional and our distractions far less. Who are we really, and why in the world are we here on Earth? Support us as we extract ourselves from the intensity of everyday life and seek to get a closer look at who we truly are. Placed in the outermost dunes of Cape Cod, a good 1/2 hour walk in dune sand from civilization, far from any media exposure, screens and devices, this residency will give our family the space to look inward and be together. Our process will include intentional acts of daily rhythm such as family meals walks art making, photography, and meditation.
As our 12 year old daughter Amelia put it, "It's sort of like going back in time. Suddenly you don't have electricity, or running water, and it's not like you can jump in the care and drive to the nearest town…. You have to have purpose in what you are doing. It makes you think more."
Funding this project will support our ability to make and share our story and the work created. It will fund our art and photography material expenses, our travel and supplies. Through sharing our story and the work produced during this residency it is our hope to encourage others to make time to be creative, look inward, and slow down. Also, turn off the TV! With enough funding we will produce a body of work to show. If we exceed our expectations for fundraising we will create a book!
